Mechanical Engineer (Norwich, CT in New London, CT

Purpose and Objectives To design, develop, and manage industrial printing products through the complete product lifecycle. This work includes, but is not limited to, participating in or managing requirements research and definition, project management, detailed design, engineering documentation, customer documentation, manufacturing integration, and product enhancements and changes. Essential Job Functions Mechanical layout and design utilizing 3D CAD SolidEdge preferred. Project management and project requirement generation. Selection of mechanical components and vendors. Engineering analysis and calculations as required. Oversee construction and test of prototype assemblies. Provide written specifications for equipment. Participate in evaluation of requests for custom modifications to existing modules. Provide technical assistance for sales calls. Provide engineering oversight and input to manufacturing and production to facilitate the manufacture of new modules. Understand and manage engineering document control operations. Understand and utilize Production management software. Supervise schedules and tasks of 1-2 subordinates. Technical Knowledge, Background and Skills Requirements Background in the design and development of industrial printing equipment. Background in cross-disciplinary project management, including researching and identifying requirements for new product development. Expertise to oversee product changes with keen attention to detail and final oversight. Expertise to manage multiple projects and design tasks while supervising the daily schedules of 1-2 employees. Background transitioning prototype designs to volume production. Knowledge and background with injection molding operations and designing for injection molding. Knowledge and background in the design and manufacture of precision machined parts and assemblies. Knowledge and background in the design and manufacture of aluminum castings. Knowledge in the selection of commercial mechanical and electro-mechanical components. Skilled in writing concise, coherent documentation. Background overseeing and managing engineering documentation procedures and systems. Knowledge of stress analysis. Basic understanding of electronics. Background with computer-aided design, including solid modeling. Supervisory Responsibility 1-2 subordinates, with the added possibility of seasonal interns.
